BUTTERFLY

MARIPOSA

PAPILLON

SCHMETTERLING

The glow of morning sun
flows across the landscape
pokes around
under the stolid fir,
flows under
and around it.

Searches
for nests of birds
of this and earlier years,
looks for a rodent,
happy for a squirrel or rat.

Most of all
the light of the sun
wants a butterfly.

For there is nothing
so heart-stopping
as the flutter of wings
that are made of sunshine.
